Masala Chai simply means "Spiced Tea", more commonly referred to as a particular sort of tea we think of as "Chai Tea". These aromatic spices are commonly added to black tea to create a spicy, hot beverage that pairs well with Indian foods, dark chocolate, aged cheddar, and brie. Most commonly, it is enjoyed as an alternative to coffee as a warm, soothing beverage in the cold months, and an iced, refreshing beverage in the hot months served with milk, over ice.
